Today thought we would go and film the 'Journey to work' scene where we had to gather footage which consisted of an establishing shots being Woodford Station and another being The HSBC building in Canary Wharf as well as other shots showing the main characters journey to work. We all met at Woodford Station at around 12 where we able to avoid any over crowding on the train as we had to carry all of the media equipment.
When we got to Woodford Station we spent 2 minutes filming an establishing shot of Woodford Station and find the main character strolling into the station so the audience are aware of the journey he is taking. We then set off to Canary Wharf taking the central line to Stratford Station then changing railway lines to the Jubilee line taking us to Canary Wharf. At first we thought we would set up the camera on the tripod and film one of the towering buildings (1Canada Square) but little did we know that security up there is tight as we found out through a security guard who explained to us that we would need permit giving us permission to film the location. This was our first problem we had encountered as a group and we were determined to find a way arund it as it takes days for a permit to be approved and we had to film that day if we were to keep to our deadlines.
We then tried to film Lewis (main character) walking in to Waitrose in Canary Wharf as we thought that being a supermarket it would be allowed with less strict security. We filmed around 3 takes only to find they were really 3 failed attempts. So we put our heads together and decided to explore Canary Wharf for footage we could use in our music video. Then we sneakily pretended to be tourists gathering footage of the HSBC building through a tilting establishing shot. In a sense capturing how big the building is codes for how many of us are consumed through a money motivated cognition, a corporate world.
We then stumbled across a revolving door leading to escalators that lead to the underground shopping centre at Canary Wharf. This was a turn of good fortune for us as this is exactly what we wanted to capture, two things which we can relate to the role of repetitiveness in our music video.
We decided that we could use the revolving doors as the entrance to the towering HSBC Building and the escalator to show part of the journey to his office as well as show off some conventions of repetitiveness.
