This is our finished music video meaning and overall we thoroughly enjoyed creating it, the only problem is that none of us can stand this song anymore but we are very proud of what we have achieved.Bassline Recordshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05924741079639484609noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6562094052926466786.post-31618493645420327032011-04-10T11:25:00.000-07:002011-04-10T11:26:39.276-07:00Editing Session - Improved Footage 2For our last part of editing we decided to incorporate some more lip syncing in our video as our rough cut didn't contain much of it. We had a few gaps from what we left from editing the whole of the music video the previous day. These gaps would be where the lip syncing would be placed in the music video, this provided the right balance between both the performance and the narrative. We introduced each lip sync to the beat and made sure that each of the lip sync footage was parallel to the lyrics otherwise it would have looked contrapuntal and unprofessional.Bassline Recordshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05924741079639484609noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6562094052926466786.post-56831613966964553342011-04-10T11:05:00.000-07:002011-04-10T11:26:27.413-07:00Filming Session - Improved Footage 2That night after further editing to our music video we went back to Lewis' to film more Lip syncing to add for the music video. This would complete our objective list for improving our music video to create a more realistic one. We filmed Lewis' friend as he was the lead singer in the performance we had previously filmed so it would only make sense we video him. We gathered a mix of mid shots and low angle shots which represent the lead singer is important in the video as well as the song. We had finally completed the filming for the music video and all there was to do to now was to finish the editing.Bassline Recordshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05924741079639484609noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6562094052926466786.post-45259428505263739332011-04-10T10:18:00.000-07:002011-04-10T12:10:52.407-07:00Editing Session - Improved FootageOn Monday 4th January we went back to school to edit the rest of our music video in which we gathered footage to improve it in terms of continuity and fluency as well as the audience understanding the narrative. We uploaded the footage and did what we said in a previous discussion and that was to manipulate the footage of the morph men performing robotic movements. We used repetitive reverse edits to each shot, this brought a sense of quirkiness to our music video and allowed us to break up some of the shots in the narrative which was one of our objectives after reviewing our class feedback. Another objective was introducing an ending to the narrative which would in turn give the audience an understanding of where it leads. We added this to the end of the music video as the music fades out. This didn't require any editing as there was no music to keep it parallel with. The problem was we felt that we could also improve a music video a bit more by introducing more shots of lip syncing which would also break up the shots of the narrative. So we decided that we would film some more lip syncing shots that night ready to be edited the next day in our double media lesson. this way we would have taken on all of our objectives in improving our music video and hopefully have a final version of it.Bassline Recordshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05924741079639484609noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6562094052926466786.post-47243301380147817192011-04-10T10:02:00.000-07:002011-04-10T11:25:59.197-07:00Filming Session - Improved FootageThe day after our discussion (2nd April) we decided we would film the footage that we would use to improve our music video this included two different shots. One filming two of us in different coloured morph suits performing robotic movements so we perform repetitive reverse edits used to cut up some of the shots in the narrative to create continuity and fluency in the music video. This footage would include mid shots of both people in morph suits as well as low angle shots capturing the feet and legs of the person in each morph suit this would give us plenty of footage to play with in terms of breaking up the long shots used in the narrative. The other shot would be used in the narrative to indicate where the narrative goes to the audience, this being the main character waking up to the narrative being a nightmare. We would capture this identically as we did in the first scene of the music video being a mid shot positioned at the end of the main characters bed, but this time capturing him waking up with a relieved face after facing a nightmare.Bassline Recordshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05924741079639484609noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6562094052926466786.post-5539429870017440952011-04-10T09:45:00.000-07:002011-04-10T11:25:41.558-07:00Discussion - How to improve our music videoThe follwing day after the showcase (1st April) we as a group decided to meet for lunch to discuss our feedback from our peers as well as how we could take on this criticism in order to improve our music video overall. First of all we discussed that we would need to mix up the performance with the narrative to create a balance between the two. Another criticism we had to take on board was that there wasn't enough lip syncing involved in the performance. To deal with this we decided that we would gather more footage which includes the lead singer of the band performing more lip syncing. There were two more criticisms that stood out in the feedback sheets and that was that some shots lasted too long in the narrative and that the narrative never lead anywhere. So we came up with suggestions to improve these. One was to incorporate an ending to the music video so that the audience no where the narrative leads, our idea for this was to film an identical piece of footage to the beginning where the main character wakes up but this time he wakes up to a nightmare. The nightmare being the narrative. A solution to other criticism being that some shots lasted too long in the narrative was to add similar footage in a music video Lewis had seen recently called 'Rocker' where it shows repetitive reverse edits of people. We decided to take inspiration from this as we could no gather even more footage to incorporate into our video cutting some of the narrative shots in terms of length. We discussed we would film two of us dressed in morph suits performing robotic movements which wouldn't look out of place in the music video as the band were dressed in these and it would also add to the quirkiness of the music video. These quick reverse repetitive edits should allow a rythmic basis connected to the song through rhythmic editing.<br />

We hoped this would give us advice/feedback from our peers on how to improve our music video for future development. We were all given feedback sheets to fill out for each group video. When it came to our turn we found that our narrative was clear and understandable but didn't lead anywhere as well as discover that some shots lasted a little longer than others. This was constructive criticisms that we would take on board to improve our music video. Other feedback included that our performance was one of our main strengths in the video but the problem was that some of the lip syncing wasn't parallel with the soundtrack. Some of the audience suggested that we should also include more lip syncing as well as mix up the performance we with the narrative a little more.Bassline Recordshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05924741079639484609noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6562094052926466786.post-85980870832266529552011-04-10T08:37:00.000-07:002011-04-10T08:37:03.297-07:00Discussion on Group Blog so farOn the 7th of January we all felt as a group that we should concentrate on our individual blogs for the next couple of months seeing as we all had to create our ancillary texts being album art as well as either a homepage to the bands website or a magazine advert. Other tasks also had to be completed on our individual blogs such as commenting on the decisions we had made and a showing of the development of our ancillary texts being in another multimedia form.Bassline Recordshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05924741079639484609noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6562094052926466786.post-16324145559583241332011-04-10T08:33:00.000-07:002011-04-10T11:47:20.072-07:00Editing Session - Performance 2Concluding yesterdays session of editing we decided we would carry on editing the following day being today (5th January). Today we decided that we would try and finish off the rest of the performance in terms of editing. In our next stage of editing we had to align the footage with the music to create rhythmic editing. We did this by adding quick sharp edits to the lip sync of the lettering in the lyrics which allowed a rhythmic basis connected to the song as well as add quirkiness a convention of an electronic music video. Other than that we tried to edit in as many different shots as possible to create a quirky feel amongst the performance. We used transitions such as dissolves to show the different band members changing stations. Together as a group we worked effectively in order to get the performance edited which would see our music video finished as a rough cut.Bassline Recordshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05924741079639484609noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6562094052926466786.post-19280436373300975632011-04-10T08:05:00.000-07:002011-04-10T08:05:27.055-07:00Editing Session - Performance 1Already today we had edited our previous footage being the gym scene an hour earlier now we had to edit our performance. Overall we had captured over an hours worth of footage so we first had to analyse whats parts of the footage we wanted to use in our music video. We discussed the different parts of footage between us and decided what would look best. We came up with a particular edit where all of the band are in their morph suits and that they would change stations without moving so it looks like the morph suits are changing colours, this adds to the quirkiness of the music video a convention of an electronic music video. Finally we had narrowed down the footage of what we were going to use in our music video we decided to start editing. We started our performance editing where the instrumental kicks in towards the half way point in the video where we incorporated a close up of the guitarist plying the guitar to emphasize the musicianship of the band. Unfortunately we had to conclude our editing for today as we had run out of time during our lesson but decided we would continue editing in our next lesson the following dayBassline Recordshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05924741079639484609noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6562094052926466786.post-77166523019718836962011-04-10T04:59:00.000-07:002011-04-10T11:45:22.350-07:00Editing Session - Gym SceneToday on the 4th of January we had a double media lesson meaning we could hopefully edit the Gym scene as well as part of our performance. Firstly we had to start editing the Gym scene as well as discuss what footage to use in the music video as we had a range of footage of the main character exercising on different machines. We all decided to use only 4 of the machines as some of the shots that we took on others were low quality in terms of lighting so we decided to get rid of that footage giving us the sufficient amount of footage for the gym scene. First of all we had to align each part of the footage to where we thought was most appropriate. We decided that it could be linked with the lyrics i.e. when the lead singer sings laid back the main character will be leaning backwards on the rowing machine. We decided that we would quicken the pace of each of the shots a little so they don't last as long allowing us to perform quick sharp edits creating a rhythmic basis. We had now finished editing our Gym scene which took us an hours long lesson but as we had a double lesson we would be moving onto our next set of footage being the performance in the next lesson.Bassline Recordshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05924741079639484609noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6562094052926466786.post-41725938333871605082011-04-10T04:16:00.000-07:002011-04-10T04:16:14.765-07:00Editing Session - Office SceneToday on the 3rd January we all decided to edit our next part of our music video being the office scene. Not much editing took place in this scene as it is quite a short scene but we decided to play with the different transitions and effects too identifywhich one looked most appropriate. As this scene would be during the chorus of the song we wanted to create rhythmic editing by introducing quick reverse edits. These edits would be the where the main character is stamping the papers on his desk as this is repetitive and would code for repetition. As this lesson was only an hour we didn't have enough time to edit anymore footage but at least we had made progress and tomorrow in our double media lesson we could focus on the next scene as well as the performance side of the music video.Bassline Recordshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05924741079639484609noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6562094052926466786.post-65956081688349523212011-04-09T09:55:00.001-07:002011-04-10T04:18:45.420-07:00Lip Sync Activity<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/2WMGOKYl0d8" title="YouTube video player" width="480"></iframe>Bassline Recordshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05924741079639484609noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6562094052926466786.post-87683837633507074542011-04-07T10:23:00.000-07:002011-04-10T03:42:39.215-07:00Editing Session - Journey to Work SceneIn our second lesson of the day we decided to carry on editing our music video by starting on the next scene being the journey to work. We looked at the different edits we could use to manipulate the footage in terms of showing the role of repetitiveness and ensure that the edit is parallel with the beat of the soundtrack. We found a particular edit that we thought we would use twice in this scene which was a reverse edit. The use of the reverse edit ensured we could add another code for repetitiveness as well as add some quirkiness to the video. This quirkiness is a convention of an electronic house music video. We decided that one of the shots lasted too long and therefore had to either shorten the shot or increase the speed of the shot. This footage was the shot where we tilted the camera up the side of the HSBC Building in Canary Wharf. We decided that if we managed to speed it up the shot would look more quirky and fun whereas if it was simply cut it may have looked boring and look contrapuntal compared to the beat of the music. We concluded today's session of editing as the lesson was over, but we had made a lot of progress in terms of editing 2 of the scenes within the music video. We would carry on editing in the next lesson we had which is on Friday.Bassline Recordshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05924741079639484609noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6562094052926466786.post-32222186520444388412011-04-07T09:44:00.000-07:002011-04-07T10:29:09.736-07:00Editing Session - Opening Scene 2As we had to stop filming the previously day because we ran out of time we carried on editing the opening scene piece of footage. During the 2 hours we had we got our heads down by adding new effects to our music video such as increasing the speed of the main character having a shave so it was parallel with the beat as well as adding two transitions in the shaving footage representing time as many people identify this transition to be clock like. We had then concluded the editing stage of the opening scene and ready to start editing the rest of the footage.Bassline Recordshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05924741079639484609noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6562094052926466786.post-40403022380508090812011-04-07T09:33:00.000-07:002011-04-07T10:28:05.631-07:00Editing Session - Opening Scene 1The Monday (31st January) following the filming of our performance we took our footage that we had filmed up to this point and got ready to to start editing it. The beginning stage was to transfer some of the footage that we hadn't quite uploaded yet to the Apple Mac. Once we had done this we had to render all of the footage which would enable us to start editing the footage we had gathered. <br />
in todays lesson we decided to solely focus on the opening scene that we had filmed for our music video. We started by editing where the main character is awoken by his alarm clock, we added the audio of the soundtrack onto Final Cut so we could see where the edits could go in rhythm with the beat. When the beat first kicks in is where we wanted the alarm clock appear and when the introduction of the beat fades we wanted the main character turning off the alarm clock. Once we had done this we included the other footage such as the journey to the bathroom as well as the scene in the bathroom and the main getting changed. Once we had put this into the correct order getting rid of any footage that we didn't need we started off the editing of the scene by adding a vibration effect when the alarm goes off in the video. We concluded our editing there for the day as our lesson time was up but planned to continue the next day when we all had a double lesson of media.Bassline Recordshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05924741079639484609noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6562094052926466786.post-89258259191571003732011-04-07T09:13:00.000-07:002011-04-07T09:13:00.702-07:00Film Session - 'Performance' (29th January)A week later (29th January) after discussing what were going to use in terms of performance, we were going to film. We decided to change our idea of filming inside Lewis' house and instead decide to film inside his garden where we thought it would give more of an outstanding effect to the lighting as well as the smoke from the smoke machine in the darkness. We also had the help from some of Lewis' friends who volunteered to take part in our music video such as the performance. So we waited for an hour whilst setting up the performance in terms of positioning the instruments, lighting and the smoke machine. We also identified where we could capture different shots within the video.<br />
Then we had a major drawback being that it had started to rain which meant we couldn't film outside as the equipment would have been ruined. So we went back inside trying to think of a solution. We were determined to get the filming done today so decided that we should go back to our initial plan of filming inside Lewis' house. This way it wouldn't postpone any progress we were making in the development of our music video. <br />
So we tried to replicate the layout of the setup outside inside Lewis' living room. Eventually we were ready to start filming. We all got dressed up in Morphsuits which has an example of one in a previous post. This should add to the anonymous theme of the band. It also add vibrant colours to the shot which is also a convention of an Electronic music video coding for fun. We decided to assign each person in the performance a role of an instrument and then swap them at different stages of the footage with the same camera shot so when we edit it looks like each member of the band are swapping stations. This adds to the theme of repetitiveness. We also gathered panning shots of the performance capturing it in motion to add continuity and fluency of the footage. After 2 hours of filming capturing around one and a half hours of footage we called it a day and decided that we would start the editing process of the music video on Monday back at school.Bassline Recordshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05924741079639484609noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6562094052926466786.post-24307987754543757442011-04-07T08:33:00.000-07:002011-04-07T08:33:09.367-07:00Meeting - Discussing 'the performance (21st January)Today on the 21st January we all met up for breakfast at a local cafe in Woodford Green where we thought we would discuss the performance side of the music video. As we had already filmed the majority of out narrative we decided to film some performance if not all of it. We decided we would discuss performance as when it comes to editing the footage we already had, we could incorporate the right balance of narrative and performance. The first decision we had to make was to decide the location of where we were going to film the footage. Lewis kindly said we could film this at his house, this would also allow consistency within the video as the performance would be set in the same setting as the opening scene. This way the audience can identify the link between the performance and the narrative.<br />
<br />
The next thing that we discussed involved costumes and props. As the band's name is 'No Name' we thought of how we could relate to this through anonymity. Lewis owned a few Morphsuits which we all thought we could use as the costumes hiding the band's faces relating to the band name 'No Name'.<br />

<br />
Lastly on the topic of Performance we discussed the props that would be used in the footage, the obvious thing would be the appropriate instruments used in the soundtrack. Lewis already owned all of the instruments that could be heard in the soundtrack which was lucky. These instruments involved a:<br />
<br />
<ul><li>Guitars</li>
<li>Drum Set </li>
<li>Tambourine </li>
</ul><div>We then discussed further props that would be involved which could create a quirky feel to the footage, this involved lighting and smoke. Lewis luckily had some friends that owned a smoke machine as well as LED lighted balloons which could be used to add quirkiness to the footage. The lighting could also code for the genre of music being electronic. These extra props include:</div><div><ul><li>A Smoke Machine </li>

We had to consult Lewis as it was his house we were using. Lewis decided that we could film this piece of footage a week from now on the 28th January.</div></div><div><br />

<div class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: Times;">The next day after discussing the Gym scene we decided to head down to the school gym and get filming. Firstly we had to go to the P.E Office and ask for permission to use the Gym otherwise it wouldn't be possible to film. Once we had access to the gym we went down and set up the camera for the first being a High angle shot of the main character (Lewis) performing sit-ups, and then gathered footage of other shots such as low angle shots of the main character performing other exercises on other machines. Within 30 minutes we had finished the filming of this scene and was ready to transfer the footage from the memory card to the Apple Mac and ready to start editing along with the other footage we had gathered so far.<o:p></o:p></span></div><!--EndFragment-->Bassline Recordshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05924741079639484609noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6562094052926466786.post-9400055617615983862011-04-07T01:48:00.000-07:002011-04-07T01:48:09.745-07:00Discussion on the 'Gym' Session<!--StartFragment--> <br />
<div class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: Times;">Today on the 20th of January we all decided to meet up for lunch to discuss what else we could involve in our music video that also connoted a repetitive theme. We then came up with the idea that the Gym would be a perfect place to film as it connotes repetitive behaviour through the different machines as each machine requires repetitive movements. We then had to come up with where we were going to film the footage, but it was simple, we could use the school gym as we have access during school hours which meant that we could use one of our media lessons during the week. So we planned on filming the footage the very next lesson. All we needed was for Lewis to bring a change of clothing, which is appropriate for the Gym being a sports T-shirt and shorts as well as trainers. We also discussed the shots we could use by imagining what angles of shots we use on some of the machines, which would help for preparation of the filming. To gain access to the gym we would need permission from the P.E Office to borrow the gym for an hour.<o:p></o:p></span></div><!--EndFragment-->Bassline Recordshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05924741079639484609noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6562094052926466786.post-75909863802470077212011-04-06T07:23:00.000-07:002011-04-06T07:23:48.613-07:00Plan For Office Scene<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijFs-HmMas73dPk-SBf6S2xImLLLnsdCt98Bu9YwHRlV-v3lqEjjtFspXaA8ullHc4798ImkN-tec8Zstx5iUdrKOFCZsNcfb4c36MIKikrr0dXLJfUQ4kO0SrHL_OgPhF1XUcgb0phtfN/s1600/Picture+22.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: black;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijFs-HmMas73dPk-SBf6S2xImLLLnsdCt98Bu9YwHRlV-v3lqEjjtFspXaA8ullHc4798ImkN-tec8Zstx5iUdrKOFCZsNcfb4c36MIKikrr0dXLJfUQ4kO0SrHL_OgPhF1XUcgb0phtfN/s400/Picture+22.png" width="332" /></span></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; line-height: 18px; text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Here we sat down in a group and we looked at our scene we could shoot in a media lesson and set out this scene that would be used as a makeshift office. We looked at essential things such as the props, like the office wall partitions, piles of paper, phone and the computer to make it look more like an office environment.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; line-height: 18px; text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif;">We also looked at where our sources of light were coming from as to give a natural lighting effect and try not to use too much lighting from room lights.</span></div>Bassline Recordshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05924741079639484609noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6562094052926466786.post-17980448742431133232011-04-06T07:17:00.000-07:002011-04-06T07:17:56.609-07:00Filming Session - 'Office' Scene (16th January)Today during our media lesson we decided we would film our office scene. We as a group all contributed when setting up the scene, finally creating an office environment. Once we had finished this we decided to use a mid-shot of the main character (Lewis) working by taking telephone calls and stamping papers. This bit of footage had to be played with the audio in the background to help us envisage what it would look like in music video. We tried not to capture any of the classroom background as it would give an unprofessional and inconsistent look to the music video. When the chorus is introduced into the song where the lyrics 'Over and Over' are heard is where the stamping would take place as it keeps in with the theme of repetitiveness.<div>Once we had finished filming the office scene we tidied away all of the props and put them back into their proper place and then uploaded the footage of the office scene onto Final Cut Express where we could get ready to edit the footage the next day.</div>Bassline Recordshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05924741079639484609noreply@blogger.com0
